Who says Grandmas can’t have style?
It’s time for a peek inside the Helman family scrapbook, which my mom has recently put on facebook (moms these days…) for a retrospective on one of my favorite style icons of all time: Nanny Helman.
Some people might not think style is genetic.
Since I own this outfit, I’d have to disagree .
Some people might think that when your Nanny goes to heaven in the 1st grade you forget what her favorite dresses look like.
We have hers in our dress up box.
Some people only have style when they “try”.
My Nanny was not one of those people.
Some people use motherhood as an excuse to dress sloppy.
My Nanny was not one of those people, either.
Some people think tailored pants are only for going to work.
My Nanny wore them ice skating.
Some might think that when sailing on the Long Island Sound, it would be likely that your hair might become disheveled.
My Nanny doesn’t need the laws of Physics on her side to have great hair.
Some people look back at pictures from 30 years ago and shudder with memories of shoulder pads and crimped hair.
Our Nanny looked perfect.

You are so cute. Nanny is smiling from heaven!!
In the 80′s Nanny was the coolest too! Eclectic Manhattan fashion similar (only as to creativity) to your unique 80′s childhood style, Eclectic ‘Costume Box mash up’ fashion. You should see if your mother has some pics of her fashion in the mid and late 80′s. Great pics of a great person.
I LOVE her Dresses… She is so Classy, just like you
so pretty!
